We
leave from our base in Windham, and travel to the Mid-Coast
region of Maine. Our first day's activity will be a hike
in the coastal mountains overlooking the village of Camden
and picturesque Penobscot Bay.
After spending the afternoon hiking, we drive
to Stonington and our bayside campsite. The views will
be fantastic, and a delicious dinner will be cooked over a
roaring fire. There will be time to relax, savor the
day, and look forward to the next few days of the MultiSport
adventure. |

Our second day's activity, sea
kayaking, begins after a hearty breakfast. We
start with lessons (for those needing them), and then spend
the day exploring the islands and ledges of stunningly beautiful
East Penobscot Bay. In the late afternoon we return
to the campground, but the fun is far from over. You
will be treated to a traditional Maine lobsterbake. The
second evening's accommodations will be the same bayside
site as the previous evening.

On the
morning of the third day we drive to the Grand Lakes region of
Maine. We spend the afternoon canoeing, swimming, and relaxing
in the remote, scenic lake-filled area. At night we stay
at a historic lodge along Grand Lake Stream, which has been catering
to fishermen for over 100 years. |

The summer sun rises
earlier in Washington County than anywhere else in the Eastern
U.S., hence the nickname "Sunrise Coast". On
the trip's final day we will rise as early as well, and after
a hearty breakfast at the lodge we travel to the Cutler Coast
Public Reserve. This oceanfront parcel of protected land
makes for a hiker's dream. If you have never been this
far "Downeast", you may be surprised at the change
in tides, which are the most dramatic in the continental U.S. |
After a short walk we reach
a stretch of magnificent cliffs rising over the Atlantic Ocean. The
views are breathtaking. This will be a place that will
always hold a special place in your memory. It will be
difficult to leave such a spectacular spot, but around mid-day
we begin our drive back to Windham for the conclusion of the
trip. |
